Mean / Median / Mode
Statistics, Descriptive
Intro: We sort the data, compute the mean $\bar{x}$, locate the median (midpoint for even $n$), and list all modes.
Worked example
- Data: 2, 2, 3, 5, 9
- Sorted data and size: $\{2,2,3,5,9\}$ with $n=5$.
- Mean: $$\bar{x}=\frac{2+2+3+5+9}{5}=\frac{21}{5}=4.2.$$
- Median (odd $n$): the middle (3rd) value $$\operatorname{median}=3.$$
- Mode(s): frequency; $f(2)=2,\ f(3)=1,\ f(5)=1,\ f(9)=1 \;\Rightarrow\; \text{mode}=2.$
- Answer: $$\boxed{\text{mean}=4.2,\quad \text{median}=3,\quad \text{mode}=2}.$$

Multiple modes?
We return all values tied for the highest frequency (multimodal).
